INS Vikrant, 1st India-Made Aircraft Carrier, Commissioned By PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned INS Vikrant today in a grand ceremony at the Cochin Shipyards.
At 262 meters long and 62 meters wide, INS Vikrant is India's first indigenous aircraft carrier and the largest warship built in India.
INS Vikrant, at the same time she can carry 30 aircraft.
This warship can accommodate a crew of approximately 1,600.
As the first aircraft carrier designed and built by locals, INS Vikrant will strengthen the country's reputation as the 'Blue Water Navy'.
"Today, India has been added to the list of countries that can build such large warships on their own.
INS Vikrant is named after its predecessor who played a key role in liberating Bangladesh in the 1971 war with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said INS Vikrant reflects the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission.
