E-learning या “electronic learning” का मतलब होता है ऐसी education जिसमें की electronic devices और digital media का इस्तमाल किया जाता है.
इसके अंतर्गत आते हैं सबकुछ वो चाहे तो traditional classrooms हो जो की basic technology का इस्तमाल करते हैं या फिर online universities ही क्यूँ न हो.
E-learning की अगर हम एक traditional setting को देखें तब इसमें आते हैं educational films और PowerPoint presentations. इस प्रकार के media students को ऐसे content प्रदान करते हैं जो की ज्यादा dynamic और engaging होता है textbooks और whiteboard की तुलना में.
Edutainment, या content जिसे की design किया गया होता है educational और entertaining के तोर पर, उनका इस्तमाल students के attention को अपनी और आकर्षित करने के लिए, वहीँ साथ ही उन्हें एक particular topic पर ज्ञान प्रदान करने के लिए इस्तमाल किया जाता है.
उदाहरण के लिए, एक documentary film, जो की दोनों engaging और informative भी होता है.
वहीँ कुछ classrooms incorporate करते हैं digital technology को, वहीँ दसरों को इसी के इर्द गिर्द ही design किया गया होता है. उदाहरण के लिए, एक Classroom Performance System (CPS), जो की प्रदान करता है एक completely digital learning environment.
इसमें शामिल है एक projector जिसका इस्तमाल videos को display करने के लिए होता है और web content को. साथ हिः एक digital chalkboard instructor के लिए. इसमें Students आसानी से quizzes और tests को पूर्ण कर सकते हैं और digital response pads के इस्तमाल से न की papers के.

Online education एक दूसरा बहुत ही common form होता है e-learning का. बहुत से colleges और universities अब students को allow करते हैं अपने assignments online submit करने के लिए और साथ में tests को भी online complete करने के लिए.
