TCP का Full Form होता है “Transmission Control Protocol.” TCP एक fundamental protocol होता है वो भी Internet protocol suite के भीतर में — जो की एक collection होता है standards की जो allow करते हैं systems को communicate करने के लिए Internet में. इसे categorized किया जाता है एक “transport layer” protocol के तोर पर क्यूंकि ये create करता है और साथ में maintain भी करता है connections को hosts के बीच में.
TCP सही रूप में compliment करता है Internet protocol (IP) को, जो की define करता है IP addresses को जिसका इस्तमाल systems को identify करने के लिए होता है Internet पर. ये Internet protocol प्रदान करता है instructions वो भी data की transferring करने का वहीँ transmission control protocol create करता है connection और manage करता है Packets की delivery को वो भी एक system से दुसरे में.
ये दो protocols को commonly एकसाथ group किया जाता है और वहीँ refer किया जाता है TCP/IP के तोर पर. जब data को भेजा जाता है एक TCP connection से, तब protocol divide करती है इसे individually numbered packets या “segments” में. इसमें प्रत्येक packet में शामिल होता है एक header जो की define करता है source और destination को और साथ में एक data section को भी. चूँकि packets internet में travel करती है वो भी multiple routes के इस्तमाल से, वहीँ वो सभी एक ही destination पर पहुँचते हैं लेकिन अलग अलग order में जिस प्रकार से उन्हें भेजा गया होता है. The transmission control protocol packets को reorder करती हैं एक correct sequence में वो भी receiving end पर.
TCP में शामिल होती हैं error checking, जो की ensure करती हैं प्रत्येक packet को deliver किया जाये जैसे की उन्हें request किया गया हो. ये पूरी तरह से अलग है UDP से, जो की ये check भी नहीं करती है की successfully transmitted हुई भी या नहीं. वहीँ built-in error checking का मतलब है की TCP में ज्यादा overhead होते हैं इसलिए ये काफी slower होती है UDP की तुलना में, ये ensure करती है की data की accurate delivery हो systems के बीच में.
यही कारण है की TCP का इस्तमाल ज्यादातर काफी अलग अलग प्रकार के data की transferring करने के लिए होती है जैसे की webpages और files वो भी Internet पर. UDP बहुत ही ideal होती है media streaming के लिए जिसमें की सभी packets को पहुँचने की जरुरत भी नहीं पड़ती है.
