अशोक लेलैंड का इतिहास

Ashok Motors की शुरुवात सन 1948 में Raghunandan Saran के द्वारा किया गया था. वो एक Indian freedom fighter हैं Punjab से. स्वतंत्रता के बाद भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री Nehru जी ने उन्हें modern industrial venture में invest करने को कहा था।

Ashok Motors की जब शुरुवात हुई थी तब company England की Austin cars को manufacture करते थे. Company का नाम founder के बेटे Ashok Saran के ऊपर ही आधारित है. इस company की headquarter थी Rajaji Saalai, Chennai में साथ में उनकी plant थी Ennore में. ये company पहले engage थी Austin A40 passengers cars की assembly और distribution के लिए भारत में।

वहीँ Raghunandan Saran की मौत air crash में हो जाने के बाद company partners के खोज में लग गयी. वही Raghunandan Saran पहले ही England की Leyland Motors के साथ बातचीत कर रहे थे. और उनके अनुसार वो passengers cars के जगह में commercial vehicle बनाने के बारे में ज्यादा उत्सुक थे।

फिर ये company Madras State Government के under और दुसरे shareholders के साथ discussion करने के बाद ये finalise किया की वो Leyland Motors के साथ मिलना चाहते हैं जिससे Leyland एक investment और technology partner बन सके. फलस्वरूप Leyland Motors ने सन 1954 में equity participation के साथ Ashok Motors के साथ जुड़ गया, और बाद में इन्होने अपना नाम भी बदल कर Ashok Leyland रख दिया।

Ashok Leyland फिर commercial vehicles manufacture करने लगे. दोनों company के मिल जाने से वो भारत के foremost commercial vehicle manufacturers बन गए. साथ में दुनिया के अलग अलग देशों में भी विस्तारित होने लगे।

वहीँ ये partnership करीब 1975 तक चली जैसे की इस दोनों में समझोता हुआ था. उसके बाद भी लेकिन British Leyland ने Technology में assist करने का वादा किया जिसके कारन हम आज भी इनके vechiles में नए upgrade देखने को पा रहे हैं।

सन 2007 में, the Hinduja Group ने Iveco के indirect stake जो की Ashok Leyland में थे उन्हें इसने खरीद लिया. यहाँ promoter (Hinduja Groups) की पास Ashok Leyland की shareholding करीब 51% से ज्यादा है. आज Ashok Leyland एक flagship है Hinduja Group of Companies की।

1.  Ennore, Tamil Nadu जो की North Chennai में स्तिथ है. इसे establish सन 1948 में किया गया – इसमें trucks, buses, engines, axles इत्यादि बनते हैं।

2.  Hosur, Tamil Nadu की Krishnagiri District में. इसे सन 1980 में establish किया गया था. इसमें तीन adjacent plants है (Hosur-1, Hosur-2, CPPS) की trucks, special vehicles और power units के लिए।

3.  Alwar, Rajasthan में. इसे सन 1982 में establish किया गया. यह एक bus manufacturing unit है।

4.  Bhandara, Maharashtra (established किया गया सन 1982 में) – यह एक gearbox unit है।

5.  Pantnagar, Uttarakhand (established किया गया सन 2010 में) – यह एक 75,000 annual capacity वाला greenfield unit है जिसमें नया generation platforms और cabs बनाया जाता है।

6.  Sengadu Village, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu (established किया गया सन 2008 में) – यह एक technical और production facility है Ashok Leyland Defence Systems के लिए; साथ में एक separate technical center भी है Nissan Ashok Leyland vehicles के लिए।

7. Europe में: Sherburn-in-Elmet, England – जिसमें Optare Bus की unit है।

• Dost: ये Dost एक 1.25 ton light commercial vehicle (LCV) होती है, ये वो पहला product है जिसे की Indian-Japanese commercial vehicle joint venture में बनाया गया. Hythane Engines

Ashok Leyland न्र Huthane engines develop किया एक Australian Company Eden Energy के साथ associate होकर. Ashok Leyland ने successfully develop किया है एक 6-cylinder, 6-litre (370 cu in) 92 kW (123 hp) BS-4 engine जो की hythane (H-CNG) का इस्तमाल करता है।

यह Hythane एक प्रकार का blend होता है natural gas और लगभग 20% की hydrogen का. Hydrogen Engine की efficiency बढ़ाने के काम आता है. ये company इन Hythane engines का wide-scale use के लिए भारत सरकार के साथ बातचीत कर रही है और बहुत जल्द ही इन्हें इस्तमाल में लाया जा सकता है।

CNG Engines

CNG Engines बहुत ही successful Concept बनी. अब करीब 5,500 से भी ज्यादा buses में इस technology का इस्तमाल किया जाता है, जो की Delhi के सड़कों में अब चल रही है. CNG के अलग Fuel Station होती है. और ये कम प्रदुषण पैदा करते हैं traditional diesel engines के तुलना में।
